repository of latex packages

I noticed that BaKoMa does not work with certain packages or/and styles. Example: \usepackage{newtxtext}. Does anyone know how does the repository works in BaKoMa?

I think the problem is that newtxtext was created after the last version of BaKoMa, and hence is not available in the bakoma-tex.com tex archive. Go to Options -> Common Settings -> Directories and, in the section "CTAN site for downloading additional modules" try selecting 'http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive" (the first option after bakoma-tex.com). I haven't tried it, but logically it should work. If it doesn't, you could get the package manually and put it in the right spot in the BaKoMa texmf tree on your computer, and then click the button on the Directories window to Rebuild the package database. I can give you more details if you're not familiar with what that entails.

Just in case if the BaKoMa server stops working. How can one install manually a new TEX package/style into the Mac version of BaKoMa TeX after downloading it from the CTAN site? Thank you.

First go to Options -> Common settings -> Directories and take note of the directory labeled $TEXMFLOCAL. On a Windows system, it may be something like c:\Bakoma11\local. I don't know what it will be on a Mac system.

You need to put the style files you got from CTAN in the appropriate subdirectory of that directory. Look at the README file that you get from CTAN for any special instructions. For many style files, the appropriate subdirectory will be a subdirectory of TeX\LaTeX. The name you give to the subdirectory doesn't matter, but it is good to make it something you will recognize in the future. (You can put the files in the TeX\LaTeX subdirectory itself, but it is better to organize them in subdirectories of TeX\LaTeX, so that you can find them more easily later on.

After you have put the files in the right place, go back to Options->Common settings->Directories and click the "Rebuild All ls-R" button (which induces BaKoMa to scan the directories to index the files in them).
